We spoke about the new book ‘Ouch! What’s hurting our Oceans?’ which addresses the needs of the hour, climate change and its impact on nature.
Mayaan, loves to spend time in water. He loves to relax on his boat, Dakshini. But he is alarmed one day when he finds the Magnificient corals which are normally hard, have begun to soften. What could be the cause? He has to get to the bottom of this mystery before things get worse for other marine life.
Through Mayaan, we learnt about pressing environmental issues, in this case ocean acidification and how it impacts even the tiniest of marine creatures.
We read the book with a much-loved children’s author, Ms. Katie Bagli, an award-winning children’s author who is passionate about writing on themes of nature and the environment.
The group 'Club Elves' gave a charming skit 'The Ocean Summit' based on the book.
The library has about 30,000 books on various disciplines like religion, philosophy, social sciences, astronomy and allied sciences, arts and architecture, literature, history, geography and biographies. Besides these, there is a good collection of books on and by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi. There is a good collection of encyclopedias, both general and special.
