March is the month that celebrates women and poetry, 8th March being International Women’s Day and 21st March being World Poetry Day. International Women’s Day is now widely popular as a day to celebrate women. World Poetry Day is celebrated on 21st March, and was declared by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 1999, "with the aim of supporting linguistic diversity through poetic expression and increasing the opportunity for endangered languages to be heard". Its purpose is to promote the reading, writing, publishing, and teaching of poetry throughout the world and, as the original UNESCO declaration says, to "give fresh recognition and impetus to national, regional, and international poetry movements".
To mark these two days, the Nehru Centre Library has planned an evening of multilingual poetry recitals by women poets.
We are happy to invite you to join us for the same. Dr Paramita Mukherjee Mullick, who is an award winning poet, will curate the event.

Time: 4.30 p.m.
