Around 100 students along with parents and teachers attended ‘Gaatha’ a story telling session at the Nehru Centre Library on 5th October. This session was conducted in association with the Mumbai Storytellers Society. The stories enthralled all students. The session was very interactive with the students participating enthusiastically. The story tellers themselves narrated the stories with great gusto, actions and expressions. All stories were narrated in Hindi language. Students from Diamond Jubilee High School for Girls, Muktangan Education Trust (Love Grove Pumping MPS) and Parle Tilak Vidyalaya attended the programme. The audience were welcomed by Ms. Arati Desai, Librarian and Documentation Officer of the Nehru Centre Library. Ms. Usha Venkatraman, founder of the Mumbai Storytellers Society introduced the speakers.
The four storytellers were Simran Nagwani, Shalini Bajaj Surve, Misbah Ali and Aarti Punjabi. Simran Nagwani narrated the story of ‘Bhullakad Geeta’ which she translated from Sudha Murthy’s ‘5 spoons of salt’. Shalini Bajaj narrated the story of ‘Bol Bacchan Babban’ the gossiping haircutter. Misbah Ali told story about a ‘Gudda Guddi seller’ and gave the message of forgiveness and charity through deeds. The last story narrated by Aarti Punjabi was about ‘Dhruv Taara’ and the ‘Saat Saptarishis’ who shine in the sky every night. All the stories were thoroughly enjoyed by the audience.
