Poetry Evenings at Nehru Centre Library _ Saturday 30th August, 2025

When we were in school, we learnt to recite a sweet poem which went like this:

What is this life if, full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare? –

No time to stand beneath the boughs,

And stare as long as sheep and cows:

No time to see, when woods we pass,

Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass:

No time to see, in broad daylight,

Streams full of stars, like skies at night:

No time to turn at Beauty’s glance,

And watch her feet, how they can dance:

No time to wait till her mouth can

Enrich that smile her eyes began?

A poor life this if, full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare.

It is ironic that the words still sound so true more than a century later.

You are cordially invited to a poetry evening on the theme ‘Yutori’, the conscious act of slowing down. Let’s all get together to spend some time to slow down, and listen to 9 poets who will recite their poems in their own language.

To register for the poetry evening, please scan the attached QR code or mail us at nehrucentrelibrary@gmail.com.
